RESPONDING TO THE STORM WEBINAR

This webinar took place on Thursday 18th May 2023, 7.30pm - 9pm.  It was organised by Natalie Collins in response to the unfolding investigation into Mike Pilavachi at Soul Survivor Watford.  THIS  is a timeline about the situation.

The webinar contributors were Dr Selina Stone, Mike Rutt and Natalie Collins, with Vicky Walker facilitating.  When booking into the event, attendees could submit questions or topics to be discussed.  Those unable to attend could submit questions and topics on a separate Google form.  Over 300 questions and subjects were submitted. After thematically organising these and trying to ensure as many questions as possible were included within the webinar. These questions are available as a PDF to encourage ongoing learning and reflection.

Thank you to Selina, Mike and Vicky for contributing, and to Helen and Paul for chat moderation and tech support!   Thank you all those who gave their evening to join us for the webinar and to all those who are doing their best to survive and thrive in the midst of painful situations which feel unbearable.  You are being cheered on by so many!

SUPPORT MATERIALS

SUPPORT IDEAS

This PDF was provided in advance of the webinar to offer suggestions of how to ensure attendees felt safe before, during and after the webinar.  It includes a list of helplines and other resources that may be helpful, and could be useful if you are watching the webinar recording or engaging in further reflections on these topics.

STUDY QUESTIONS

A PDF of the questions submitted by attendees and others, that were thematically collated. These were used within the webinar and can be used in personal reflection or for groups wanting to collectively consider their thoughts and actions on situations of safeguarding and/or abuse perpetrated within a Christian context.

BIDERMAN BEHAVIOURS

During the webinar, Natalie took attendees through the Biderman Behaviours, a model she has developed from the work of Albert Biderman's Chart of Coercion (found HERE) to articulate how abusive behaviour operates. She generally uses this model throughout her work on domestic abuse, but layered spiritual abuse tactics onto it during the webinar. The Biderman Behaviours PDF and a PDF of her PowerPoint can both be downloaded.

WEBINAR NOTES

During the webinar attendees could post in the chat, but only the contributors and hosts could view or respond to these messages. The public notes and a couple of signposting resources from participants have been made available. Also within the notes are other recommended resources to engage with.
